Winsford Town Council will be holding an event at the Marina Island to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day on 8th May 2025.
The evening will bring the community together to honour those who fought for freedom during World War II and is a part of a national initiative with events up and down the country.
Those attending the event are invited to gather from 9:00pm onwards at the Marina island for a performance by the Band & Drums of the Cheshire Constabulary.
At 9:30pm, the town’s beacon will be lit as a symbol of remembrance, which will be part of the lighting of beacons across the country under the guidance of the Royal Toastmaster Bruno Peek.
The lighting of the beacon will be followed by singing of “I Vow to Thee, My Country” by those present at the event.
This special occasion will be a meaningful tribute to history and unity and remembers the end of the war in Europe on 8th May 1945.
The Town Council is urging as many people to attend as possible to recognise the occasion and to remember.
Cllr Wayne Fletcher, Town Mayor of Winsford, expressed the significance of the event by saying, “VE Day marks a pivotal moment in our history, and it is important that we come together as a community to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedom. This event is a chance for Winsford to pay tribute to their legacy”.
