Remembrance

Each year, the Town Council works with the Winsford branch of the Royal British Legion to organise ceremonies in remembrance of those who fought in different conflicts in history and those who lost their lives.

The services consist of a shorter ceremony held on 11th November each year and a longer ceremony held on the nearest Sunday to 11th November. The 11th November marks the date of the armistice which ended the First World War in 1918.

The services are held in the town centre by the two war memorials – the cenotaph and the Boer War Memorial – both of which have traditionally been located in Fountain Square but which have moved to a location next to the library.

Each year, the public of Winsford attend these services in large numbers to show their respect for the fallen and to observe two minutes silence at 11am, as per the arrangements for the first armistice in 1918.

9th November 2025 – Remembrance Sunday

10:15 am The Parade forms at Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford

10:30 am The Parade sets off from Wyvern House, The Drumber, Winsford

10:45 am The Remembrance Service takes place at the newly located War Memorials.

11:00 am The 2-minute silence

11:15 am (approx) The wreaths are laid at the War Memorials

11:30 am (approx) The Civic Party will take leave to receive the March Past and will disperse on the former Civic Hall Car Park.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY PART OF THE CAR PARK WILL BE USED FOR THE MARCH PAST, THE OTHER PART WILL REMAIN OPEN.
