The Coronation


The Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla will take place on Saturday, 6 May 2023

The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.

Saturday, 6 May

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

11:00am – Their Majesties arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’.

2:00pm – After the Coronation, Their Majesties return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’.

At Buckingham Palace, The King and Queen, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.

The Coronation Big Lunch

From a cup of tea with a neighbour to a street party, a Coronation Big Lunch is a great way to get to know each other a little better. Communities are encouraged to plan or join a get-together with family, friends and neighbours to create lasting memories of the Coronation.

Overseen and organised by the Big Lunch team at the Eden Project, you can now get a FREE Coronation Big Lunch event pack to get your celebration planning off to the best start.

Concert and light show at Windsor Castle

A special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor, bringing global music icons and contemporary stars together in celebration of the historic occasion.

The centre piece of the Coronation Concert, ‘Lighting up the Nation’, will see the country join together in celebration as iconic locations across the United Kingdom are lit up using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.

Monday, 8 May

The Big Help Out

Announced in celebration of the Coronation, many people will enjoy the Coronation bank holiday by embracing the day’s theme, The Big Help Out, and help create a lasting volunteering legacy.

You can view a list of local and national volunteering organisations and charities that welcome volunteers.

Winsford Town Council will be: 

  • Decorating the High Street fit for a King
  • Lighting up the Brunner Guildhall and Town Park, red, white, and blue
  • Holding a parade around Town Park on Friday 5 May for Winsford schools
  • Using bedding plants to create a floral display of red, white and blue in Town Park
  • Marking out a large Union Jack on the grass in Town Park
  • Holding a town-wide hanging basket competition to win the prestigious Coronation Cup, last awarded in 1953
